Dodged a Bullet
I remember, a thousand years ago,
I met you, and thought I was in a rom-com.
I would have sold my soul to be in your head.
But there was a different girl every week.
You fell in love with everyone, except me.
And I thank every, and any, God for that each day.
Because your humour is vulgar.
You don’t read the news.
You’re lazy, and lewd.
Sometimes I felt like I was your Mum.
You’re a real life Peter Pan.
But I’m not your Wendy, Darling.
I’m so glad that I escaped from Neverland.
Back when I was trapped in a fantasy,
I really believed that it would all fall into place.
I’d finally be the perfect bride that I thought I could be,
and you would be the man that made this life make sense.
But, I was looking for a quick fix.
I was wrong about you,
and I was even more wrong about me.
I don’t know if I was ever in your dreams,
but thank you so much for not telling me.
When I think of the disaster that could have been, I just feel so relieved.
I hope you feel it too.
Because we both dodged a major bullet.
